From 1st to 11th of September: Bears Sitges Week
Bears are a subculture within the gay community. In homosexual slang, bears are those people who are gay with abundant facial and body hair and stocky. Bears usually have a masculine attitude and generally refuse the stereotype of an effeminate homosexual.
The International Bear Sitges Week brings together more than 5,000 attendees in the city. It is one of the largest and best-known Bear festivals in Europe. Sitges becomes for almost two weeks the capital of the Bear movement. There is a wide variety of activities organized. Centering its activity in the Bear area (Joan Tarrida) and on the seafront, thanks to the Bear Village that will offer many and varied activities during the Days of celebration of the International Bears Sitges Week.
The objective of this meeting is to unite all kinds of bears following the main values ÔÇïÔÇïof the Bear philosophy: solidarity, tolerance, normality and permissibility.
From 17th to 23rd of September: Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open
Estrella Damm Mediterranean Ladies Open is a golf tournament which takes place at Club Golf Terramar and meets great-ever golfers which ensure a big show. The presence of Solheim Cup is highlighted.
Golfers from 25 different countries are potential to win the cup. On the other hand, Florentyna Parker, last year winner, will fight for the preservance of her title.
Nit de Foc
Santa Tecla’s previous week takes place “Nit de foc”. Nit de foc is a special night were different “correfocs” take place throw the city streets. Correfocs is a pyrotechnic show where people wear devil costums and play with fire. Nit de foc takes place at the city council until Ribera Avenue.
The dresscode recommended is: hat or cap, a tissue around your nose and mouth and an old long-sleeve shirt made of natural fibers. This way you won’t get hurt by the sparks. As footwear it is up to you as far as it is comfortable to run and dance.
From 22nd to 23rd of September: Santa Tecla. 22nd Fireworks.
Santa Tecla is a festivity quite similar to the local festival Sant Bartomeu. Otherwise, the pensioner is Saint Tecla who is a woman. The 23rd at the morning there’s a party special for children where kids dance and play with “giants”. These are figures several meters high carried by a person. The carrier spins and dance the giant to the sound of a popular band of music. Generally the giants parade in pairs of giant and giantess. The most common is that the figures represent popular archetypes or historical figures of local relevance.

Del 4 al 14 de octubre. Sitges Festival Internacional de Cine Fantástico de Cataluña
Sitges International Fantastic Cinema Festival, with more than 40 editions, is recognized as the first fantastic cinema festival of the world. Its first broadcast was launched in 1968 as a festival for fantasy and terror. Nowadays is a festival well-known around the world and it’s a reference for all those who want to keep in touch with new trends, technologies, cinema lovers, ÔǪ Many cinema directors and actors (nacional and international) meet in this festival.
SItges washes its face and dresses up as zombies. Sitges enables a zone for those who want to take part in this “zombie walk” and make up as one following a route by the city.
6 y 7 de octubre. Fiesta de la Vendimia y Muestra de Vinos
Vendimia is sponsored by Torres and organized by Turism department. Sunday in the morning a wine pressing takes place followed by a mass in the parish. At the afternoon a contest takes place in which the people who stepted the wine in the morning. The pubilla is weighed and presented with her weight in wine. The pubilla is in ancestral Catalan tradition was the female that would inherit the whole rural estate in the absence of a brother.
Del 25 al 28 de octubre. Creative Connexions. Sitges Live’18. Festival irlandés – catalán
It is an Irish-Catalan Arts Festival, a celebration of traditional culture, music, literature, theatre, dance and performance.
Creative Connexions: Sitges Live’18 celebrates the sixth edition of the Creative Connections Festival of Irish and Catalan Culture in the spectacular town of Sitges.
