Family holidays in Catalonia: what to see?

Catalonia is a region in the north-east of Spain, bordering France and the Mediterranean Sea to the east. It is a very interesting place to spend your holidays because this region offers many activities in the fields of art, culture, entertainment… Moreover, it is very easy to get to Catalonia: by plane, train or car.

The capital of Catalonia is Barcelona and it’s not for nothing! You will love this city with its impressive monuments such as: the Sagrada familia, the basilica of the famous Antoni Gaudí which is located in the district of Eixample, you can also stroll on the famous avenue “La rambla” on which you can do shopping, admire the living statues, eat, drink in terrace…

Don’t forget to go to the passeig de Gracía to admire (and visit if you wish) the facade of the Casa Batlló and the Pedrera: two realistic buildings designed by the architect Gaudí.

Moving away from the centre, you can take a walk in the famous Güell Park (also designed by Gaudí) where you will find the famous mosaic Salamander (symbol of Barcelona) and enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Barcelona.

Finally, if you want to relax, you can go to the Barceloneta (the seaside district) where you can swim and eat tapas by the sea.

About 40 minutes by car from Barcelona, head to Sitges (permanent home of the International Film Festival of Catalonia) to visit the Palacio de Maricel, a seaside museum. Take a walk along the seafront and visit the famous Iglesia de San Bartolomé y Santa Tecla, from where you can admire Sitges.

Sitges also has a number of villas for unforgettable holidays such as Villa Tupinetti which can accommodate large groups or families of up to 14 people. It is only 100 metres from the beach.

Finally Catalonia has many natural parks such as El Parque Natural de la Zona Volcánica de la Garrocha which is located in the Eastern Pyrenees, in the province of Girona, where you will meet farmers and cattle breeders, a volcanic area and an impressive flora and fauna.
