3 days before Christmas and you still don’t know what to do for new year in Barcelona? Here we propose great plans to make this Christmas, from markets, shows and even the best chocolate in Barcelona.

Nadal al Port, the Christmas market in the port of Barcelona. It is held from 5 December to 6 January on the Moll de la Fusta, in the city’s Port Vell. Once again this year the Port of Barcelona is hosting this magnificent Christmas market with a large number of Christmas stalls, attractions, activities and, new this year, an ice rink open to all. You can skate with friends or family and, for the little ones, there will be activities such as the old carousel, the little train and the 65-metre high Ferris wheel, and even workshops about the sea.

– Something you need to do if you are in Barcelona for Christmas is to walk along Paseo de Gracia at night. The city lights were switched on on 24 November and will last until 6 January. They illuminate the promenade in a magical way and there are always people walking through the streets and taking pictures with the lights hanging. And the best way to end this beautiful walk is with a hot chocolate and churros: La Granja Dulcinea, La Granja La Pallaresa or La Granja M. Viader are some of the best places to enjoy a good hot chocolate.

– Another alternative to spend an incredible New Year’s Eve in Barcelona is to go and see Els llums de Sant Pau, in the Recinte Modernista de Sant Pau. It is celebrated a magical event full of lights that this year is themed “l’Univers de la llum”. This space is open from 22 November until 15 January 2023 and tickets cost €12 per adult (weekdays) and €14 on weekends and public holidays. Here you will find all the prices available for all ages. This event has a great tour of more than 20 installations for young and old to enjoy a beautiful Christmas full of imagination.

– For those of you who don’t know exactly what to do on New Year’s Eve in Barcelona, this is for you: New Year’s Eve in Montjuic. From 9.30pm at night, Barcelona’s Avenida Maria Cristina fills up with people to usher in the new year, accompanied by an incredible spectacle. The chimes are broadcast on TV but the people who are there can follow them live, and when the 12 chimes end, around the Magic Fountain of Montjuic a great show is held to welcome the new year, with fireworks accompanied by music and the coloured water of the fountain. Incredible and well worth seeing.

– For those of you who are more of a homebody, New Year’s Eve should be spent at home. In Catalonia, one of the greatest traditions is to enjoy this magical evening with family or friends, toasting with cava and enjoying the company of friends at home. However, restaurants, hotels and nightclubs also organise dinners with cotillion, dancing, orchestras and a few surprises.

If you want to experience a wonderful holiday in Barcelona, you can stay in one of our villas, located very close to Barcelona where you can enjoy all these activities.
